Today is Sunday, May 19th, 2024. It is recognized in Christendom as Pentecost Sunday or the birthday of the Church. 🎂 The word “Christendom” first appeared in the 12th century, arising from the Middle English term cristendom, and the Old English cristendōm.

Before the schism of Orthodoxy and Catholicism in the 11th century, there was one church of Christianity, which was all of Christendom.

Now that there are thousands of distinctly identifying Christian churches, the affiliation of Christendom is more complex. Thus today, few seem to agree on much of anything with regards to “…spiritual matters.”

There are 7 things that God does— “not want us ignorant of” and these are all found in the Church epistles or those writings written specifically to the Church, the body of Christ, which is where we get the words “Christian”, “Christianity” and “Christendom”. One of the seven that God does not want us to be ignorant of is, “spiritual matters”—

“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.”

I Corinthians 12:1 King James Version (KJV)

The word “gifts” is the Greek word pneumaticos “matters” or things of the pneuma “spirit”. Over the next 30 plus posts, we will look into much of these spiritual matters. Even though this first began on the Day of Pentecost in the first century, this series will delve into what I call— The Quickening, the Enspiriment. What is it we each have, when we become born again?

How we can see the increase of God that it permeates the culture and God confirms his magnified Word with signs, miracles, wonders and incredible healings— DAILY? We can and we will!

It began with 12 disciples called as apostles and by speaking in tongues. We need to see how these proofs were normal and expected then and they should be normal and expected today. And by the way, we have more in the 21st century than they did in the 1st century.

Before he was crucified, Jesus received revelations from God, his Father and instructed his 12 disciples/apostles. In Acts 1:4 Jesus told them to wait for the promise. They were to go to Jerusalem and to the Temple “the House” for the 5 hours of prayer. In John 20:22, Jesus Christ instructed his disciples/apostle to “breathe in” .

The disciples/apostle  were in The House “the temple” during an hour of prayer. They were quiet, decent and in order. Then—

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.”

Acts 2:1, 2 KJV

“One accord” is “unity of purpose”. Notice it says they were “siting”. It was an hour of prayer and they were decent and in order. Then they (the disciples/apostles) heard the sound of heavy breathing. It filled all the House = the temple and this means that everyone in the Temple heard this sound of heavy breathing. The disciple remembered what Jesus had told them “breathe in” and when they heard this heavy breathing, they started breathing in and then—

“And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.”

Acts 1:3 KJV

Now don’t freak out. No one in “the house” (The Temple), but these 12 saw this. What they and they alone each saw was by revelation from God, one of the manifestations of the spirit, of which there are 9 (I Corinthians 12, 13, and 14). The 12 saw a fire coming down from heaven and it spilt into cloven tongues of fire. They knew from this and revelation that they were to start speaking. Fire is indicative of the presence of God and burning up impurities or making pure. They also saw tongues sit upon each of them. This spirit (eternal life) in them was completely, completely complete like when Jesus Christ ascended up into the heavens and through the heavens and “sat” down on the right hand of God—complete. From that moment on, this spirit of God was available to each, first on that Pentecost, 10 day after his ascension. The tongues of fire spilt off from the main fire meaning it was one God that filled them all and all. They were filled to capacity. They were all complete.

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost [pneuma hagion = holy spirit = the gift], and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit [Hagion capital H = Spirit = God] gave them utterance.”

Acts 1:4 KJV

The 12 did the speaking, but God gave them the languages he wanted spoken. These 12 were all Galileans. They were considered ignorant and unlearned men that only spoke one language. But God taught his spirit (child) in them and their spirit taught their minds as they just willed to speak. They were filled to capacity and complete, but this speaking in tongues was their being filled to overflow.

Since Pentecost was a Holy day, at least every head of household were required to be in Jerusalem and in The Temple for the hours of prayer. At this time, people were spread all over the then known world and they spoke Aramaic and the languages of their foreign homes. There were many regions represented and languages spoken by the 12 on this day. What did the many people hear?

“And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”

Acts 2:5-11 KJV

This is where we are going in the series to come, not only to see and hear the wonderful works of God, but DO them!

“All truth must be understood in light of the manifestation of the spirit.”

Dr. Victor Paul Wierwille

Now if you want to dispute any of this, Go for it, but I did not write the Bible, I am just…

…a witness.
